School board member looks to jump to Metro Council in election
BATON ROUGE - An East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member hopes to jump government boards this fall, asking voters to elect her to Metro Council.
Via a news release from a publicist, Barbara Freiberg announced she is running for city government. Freiberg will run for the council's district 12 seat. Currently, John Delgado holds the office but is running for mayor against a handful of other notable officials.
District 12 includes the neighborhoods of Kenilworth, Southdowns, Valley Park, Magnolia Woods, Pollard, Highland Creek, and areas south of the LSU campus.
“While serving on the EBR School Board, I have made a commitment to improving and growing our economy by preparing our children and citizens for career in the local workforce,” Freiberg said. "I will do the same on the Metro Council."
"The problems we face as a community-public safety, traffic, and education-can be tackled in a more aggressive manner when our economy is growing, our people are working, and our citizens are acquiring new skills,” Freiberg commented. “Helping to build stronger and greater economic opportunities for our community is why I am running for Metro-Council,”
she said.
Freiberg highlighted needs for building a new bridge over the Mississippi River and a loop around the city as traffic solutions.
