PRAIRIEVILLE - A man has turned himself in after he allegedly shot another man during an altercation Saturday.

According to the the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies reported to the 39000 block of West Lane in Prairieville after receiving reports of shots fired in the area Saturday.

Upon arrival, deputies found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was then taken to a hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators later learned that 23-year-old Jarvis Weams of Prairieville was involved in an argument with the victim which turned physical. Deputies say Weams then retrieved a handgun and fired five shots, striking the victim once.

Weams turned himself in over the weekend and was charged with five counts of attempted second degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, and illegal use of weapons. Weams is currently incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail on a $155,000 bond.
