Ponchatoula High cleared, authorities investigating bomb threat call

BATON ROUGE- Ponchatoula High School is closed today after officials received an anonymous threat.

Tangipahoa school officials closed the school after someone made a bomb threat to the the Pontchatoula Police Department Wednesday morning.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff, the high school has been cleared and secure. Deputies say multiple law enforcement agencies have been on site investigating a bomb threat recieved by the Pontchatoula Police Department.

The sheriff's office says 40 officers from TPSO, LSP, HPD, PPD, Homeland Security, St. John Parish SO and St. Charles Parish deputies with bomb detector dogs, wildlife and fisheries and school staff swept the school. 

Detectives are investigating the call that came through the Pontchatoula Police Department around 5:28 a.m. Wednesday. Investigators say the call was traced back to the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas.

All elementary and junior high schools in the area are still open. Classes will resume tomorrow.
