SLIDELL – Police in Slidell said they were able to calm down a woman who went into a city bank armed with a bat and knife, and disarmed her without any injuries.

According to the Slidell Police Department the woman entered a Chase Bank on 350 Gause Blvd carrying the weapons Wednesday afternoon. Police said the woman was acting homicidal and suicidal.

Police said officers negotiated with the woman for over an hour before she dropped the bat and knife and started following their instructions.

"I am proud of the restraint my officers used during this incident. Their swift and appropriate actions prevented several people from getting hurt," said Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.

The woman was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. A spokesperson for SPD said that it unknown whether charges will be filed at this time.
