BATON ROUGE - Police said a Baton Rouge woman threw her daughter out of their apartment this weekend with no shoes or socks, then wouldn't let her back in the home.

Officers charged 32-year-old Monica Hayes with cruelty to juveniles and arrested her Sunday, Oct. 4.

According to her arrest records, Hayes got into an argument with her daughter's father around 10 a.m. Sunday and kicked him out of the apartment. Police said she then threw her daughter out because she sided with her father in the argument.

Investigators said Hayes made the girl take off her shoes and socks before throwing her out, and she didn't have a jacket to stay warm in the 60 degree, windy weather. Police said her father was riding a motorcycle with only one helmet, and didn't have a way to take the girl anywhere or shelter her.

Police said they called Hayes, who had left the scene with her older daughter, but said she told them she wasn't coming home before hanging up on the officer. Officers later contacted Hayes at her apartment, and said she admitted she knew there was no way for the girl's father to take her anywhere when she threw them out.

Hayes was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail and given a $4,000 bond.
