BATON ROUGE – Authorities say one person died in a single vehicle crash on River Road Thursday morning.

The East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office identified the victim as 35-year-old William Lacroix. According to the coroner's office, Lacroix died from multisystem trauma caused by the crash. 

Baton Rouge Police responded to the scene around 7 a.m. in the 7900 block of River Road. Louisiana State Police took over the investigation of the crash and discorvered that Lacroix was traveling southbound in a Toyota Avalon when for unknown reasons he failed to make a left hand curve and ran off the roadway. Lacroix's vehicle then began to travel up the levee and overturned onto its roof.

According to Louisiana State Police, Lacroix was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, however he sustained fatal injuries as a result.

It is not known at this time if impairment was a factor in the crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Lacroix for analysis.
