BATON ROUGE- Two parents were arrested after they allegedly confronted a man who owed them money while leaving their children in the car.

Police say 21-year-old David Baker III was sitting in a black Nissan Versa waiting for a train to pass on North 38th Street around 9 a.m Saturday when a Chevrolet Trailblazer pulled up behind him.

In the Trailblazer was 26-year-old Prentiss Preston and 23-year-old Zanalynn Black along with their 1-year-old and a 4-month-old in the back seat.

Police say Baker owed Preston money for marijuana, so the couple confronted him about his debt.

An argument ensued leading to Black pulling out a gun and holding it to Baker's head. The two began to scuffle, soon Baker was able to grab hold of the weapon.

Black then got in the Nissan in attempts to steal Baker's vehicle while Preston was still in the Trailblazer. Police say Preston attempted to reverse the Trailblazer with the children inside, but Baker began shooting at the car in an attempt to hit the tires and stop the vehicle theft.

The reports say Black then got out of the Nissan and got back in the trailblazer where she attempted to run Baker over two separate times.

Baker was arrested on four counts of attempted second-degree murder. Preston was arrested on attempted aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a firearm, and two counts of improper supervision of a minor. Black was arrested on attempted theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of improper supervision of a minor.

All three suspects were booked at East Baton Rouge Parish prison.
