BATON ROUGE - The man accused of robbing a victim inside an Essen Lane gas station bathroom and later shot by deputies early Wednesday morning has been booked into prison.

According to arrest reports, Jeremy Blouin was charged with felony armed robbery, second-degree battery, disarming a peace officer, and resisting an officer with force or violence. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight, deputies were dispatched to an armed robbery call at the RaceTrac gas station on Essen Lane. Documents say Blouin followed a customer into the gas station bathroom and robbed him at gunpoint. An EBRSO spokesperson said the suspect allegedly put a gun to a victim's head and took $400 in cash before running south toward OLOL.

As deputies arrived, they chased the suspect on foot from the hospital, through two parking lots along Essen, before some sort of "scuffle" in the parking lot near Picardy Ave.

The arrest report said one deputy frisked Blouin and felt a "gun-like" object in his pocket. Once the deputy attempted to remove the item, Blouin began to fight with deputies and took hold of one of their tasers.

Blouin deployed the taser against both deputies before one of them shot Blouin with his firearm. Blouin was able to escape again but was captured at 5770 Essen Lane.

Deputies recovered over $400 in cash as well as what turned out to be a lighter built to look like a pistol.

No deputies were hurt in the incident. EBRSO said Louisiana State Police will investigate the shooting.

Blouin was accused of attempted second degree murder in September 2014. He stabbed the father of his ex-girlfriend, which he claimed he did in self-defense.

This past November, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, aggravated second degree battery. Blouin was sentenced to 15 years, but that sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation for 5 years.

In January, probation officers reported that Blouin had failed to report into the probation office for his initial intake and asked that he be arrested. There is no indication in court records that such a warrant was issued. He did show up for court for a probation review on Feb. 14 and Judge Michael Erwin rescheduled his probation review for April at Blouin’s request.
