GONZALES - Police detectives in Gonzales say they arrested the mother of a 2-year-old after the child ingested crystal meth when left unattended.

21-year-old Tyler Dauzat, of Prairieville, was arrested and charged with one count of negligent injuring, one count of cruelty to juveniles, one count of illegal use of CDS in the presence of a juvenile and one count of improper supervision of a minor.

Police said Dauzat arrived with her child at St. Elizabeth hospital with the child exhibiting extremely erratic behavior.

While Dauzat reported she didn't know what was causing the child's behavior, emergency medical personnel were able to detect methamphetamine in the child's system during a blood screen.

Dauzat was uncooperative with medical personnel and Department of Children and Family Services workers in giving an explanation of how the child came in contact with the drug.

The child was stabilized and transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric unit.

Dauzat admitted to detectives that her child was left alone in a hotel room with her purse that contained crystal meth.

She was booked into the parish prison where she awaits bond consideration, according to Gonzales Police Department.

The Department of Child and Family Services currently has custody of both the 2-year-old child and another 4-year-old child belonging to Dauzat.

The case is still under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
