HAMMOND - State police say a Mississippi woman died early Tuesday morning as a result of a two vehicle head-on crash on Interstate 55 near Interstate 12 in Hammond.

Crash scene investigators said they determined a Nissan Altima driven by 53-year-old Donna James, of Macon, MS, was traveling northbound in the left southbound lane of I-55. At the same time, a Nissan pick-up truck driven by 23-year-old Kaden Ezell was traveling southbound on I-55 in the left lane.

The two vehicles crashed head-on. The driver of the sedan was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained severe injuries. James was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.

Ezell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to Northoaks Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. Investigators said impairment is not suspects to have been a factor in this crash at this time, but blood samples were taken from both drivers for submission to the LSP Crime Lab for further analysis.
