LIVINGSTON PARISH - A teary reunion took place on the Fourth of July as a grandfather and toddler who were reported missing were reunited with their family.

The New Orleans Police Department contacted Louisiana State Police at about 3 a.m. to report a missing child from the New Orleans area. 3-year-old Roshei Selmon was last seen with his 45-year-old grandfather, Roland Williams. Both had been reported missing their familes hours before.

A Level II Endangered/Missing Child Advisory was issued by LSP due to the fact that Williams suffers from a medical condition that impairs his judgment. Troopers were on the lookout for a Cadillac sedan in which the pair was believed to be traveling.

With the missing person details broadcast to all on-duty troopers, an officer spotted the vehicle at a convenience store on Satsuma Road in Livingston Parish just after 6 a.m. Monday. The vehicle was unoccupied, and the trooper went into the store to search for the child and grandfather. Inside, the toddler and Williams were located in the restroom area of the store. Both were unharmed and in good condition. The trooper provided them with food and water as they awaited confirmation of the individuals’ identity.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene as a precautionary measure, and both were checked for any injuries before they were reunited with their families.

"However, in this darkness, we never stop searching for the light of hope. The successful recovery of this young child and his grandfather are our beacon today.
