Man shot by police booked into jail
PLAQUEMINE - State Police booked a man into jail Thursday night on charges related to a neighborhood altercation that resulted in an officer-involved shooting earlier this week.
Quinton Lawrence, 53, faces two counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a firearm and one count of felon in possession of a firearm. Lawrence was arrested after being released from the hospital.
Tuesday, Lawrence was shot by a Plaquemine city police officer. The city's police chief said officers responded to a shooting on Osage Avenue and encountered Lawrence with a gun. One of two responding officers fired at Lawrence after Lawrence pointed a gun toward them, the chief said.
Before police arrived on the scene, police said Lawrence shot an unidentified neighbor.
"There may have been some type of on-going problem over the last few weeks," the chief said to reporters on the scene.
The neighbor was released from the hospital.
State Police handled the investigation since it involved police.
