LSU gymnastics rallies late, finishes 2nd at NCAA championships

ST. LOUIS - The LSU gymnastics team had been hoping this was finally the year they broke through for a national title, but the Tigers could not overcome the Oklahoma Sooners as LSU finished 2nd for the 2nd straight year. 

The Tigers were coming off the best score in NCAA championship history in the semifinals, but they stumbled out of the gate, starting the floor with scores of 9.6750 and 9.7625 and finishing with a 49.325 in that rotation. 

The Tigers improved as the meet went along, and finished with a spectacular 49.7250 on the beam to move from 4th at the halfway point to 2nd in the final standings. 

The Sooners score of 198.3875 surpassed LSU's from Friday as the top score in championship history.
