Cloudy skies over downtown Houston around lunch Friday.

BATON ROUGE – While LSU said Friday there was no change in the upcoming season-opener for LSU Football, historic flooding by Sunday morning may be changing that thought.

LSU is scheduled to face BYU in Houston on Saturday, September 2nd, at Houston's NRG Stadium.

LSU and BYU are reported to be meeting with ESPN officials Sunday to discuss the dynamics of the game's location.  SB Nation, a sports news website, reported Sunday the game could be played at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge or at the Superdome in New Orleans.

This is the third season in a row that LSU has encountered a significant weather event other than a rain delay. In 2015, an October game with South Carolina was moved from Columbia to Baton Rouge due to flooding there. The season-opener at Tiger Stadium that year was also impacted by weather. LSU faced McNeese at Tiger Stadium in a game that went unfinished due to persistent lightning. In 2016, LSU opened the season amid flood recovery and later last season, weather impacted the match-up against Florida. Then-Hurricane Matthew forced the game, scheduled to be played in Florida, to be postponed to November. The game was moved to Baton Rouge. The situation became a debacle for the SEC.

Both schools are committed to the season-opener, officials said.  Check back for updates.
