ZACHARY - A juvenile is facing criminal charges after he allegedly shot airsoft pellets at a group of children playing outside Thursday evening.

Zachary Police said the suspect, who's under the age of 18, turned himself in after his parents brought him to the station.

"Little kids playing, they don't deserve to get shot. They're minding their own business. They're good kids, I see them playing in the neighborhood all the time" Julio Diaz said.

Diaz says he was inside watching TV with his kids when suddenly police lights lit up his living room.

"We heard that they were getting shot at with BB guns," Diaz said, "One got shot in the face, another on the shoulder something like that."

According to the department, the two juvenile victimsa young boy and girltold police they were hit by the pellets as a truck carrying multiple people in the back drove by on Old Weiss Road. A post on social media said the truck initially drove past the children but turned around and slowed down as it drove by a second time.

"One of the parents of the victim posted about it on Facebook, the suspect saw it and decided to turn himself in" Chief of detectives, Ty Stephens, said.

Just hours after the pellets hit the children, the suspect's father also saw the post on social media and was with his son when he turned himself in.

"He claimed that this was a revenge that he was shot at last week but it was a mistaken identity," Stephens said. "Some parents out there do the right thing and take responsibility for what happened."

Police did not immediately say what charges the suspect is facing.
