INVESTIGATIVE UNIT: High ranking captain under investigation accused of payroll fraud
NEW ROADS- Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office Captain Adrian Slaughter was placed on administrative leave today as two investigations get underway over his alleged actions. Slaughter is the longtime captain of the patrol division.
Sources told Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto, Slaughter padded his time sheets indicating he was working for the Sheriff's department at the same time he was working extra duty details on multiple occasions.
Sources told the WBRZ Investigative Unit, Slaughter was 18 months away from retirement, and has over 28 years of law enforcement experience. The discrepancies were discovered during a routine audit, which clearly showed the Captain trying to claim he was in two places at once.
Louisiana State Police are handling the criminal side of the investigation. Pointe Coupee Parish is handling the administrative side. Slaughter is currently under investigation for public payroll fraud and malfeasance in office.
Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Bud Torres told the Investigative Unit he could not comment on this matter citing personnel issues. However, he did confirm Slaughter was placed on leave.
"Any time you have a question about funding or money involving public money, it's very simple, I'm the Sheriff, but I'm elected by the people and I'm the custodian of the funds for the sheriff's office," Torres said. "It's my job to enforce the law and make sure my pepole are doing what they are supposed to do."
