BATON ROUGE – Baton Rouge Police say a car illegally parked in a BREC park led to one man being arrested and officers recovering a stolen firearm.

According to arrest records, a patrolling officer spotted a car illegally parked in a BREC park after dark Saturday night, violating a city ordinance. The BRPD officer approached the vehicle and 38-year-old Jason Jermaine Williams exited the car.

Williams told the officer that he was having sex with a woman who was inside the car. When asked to turn the vehicle off, police say Williams grabbed several items from the front and reached under the driver’s seat.

Officers observed two opened pint sized bottles of vodka in plain view inside the car.

Williams then argued that police could not search the vehicle because Williams did not own it. Officers tried to detain Williams but he pulled away.

“The defendant continued defensive resistance by pulling his arms away and not allowing officers to take him into custody,” the arrest records note. The officer then drew his Taser, prompting Williams to stop resisting.

Documents say that the officer found a semi-automatic pistol in addition to the two alcohol bottles inside the car. It was later revealed that the gun was stolen and Williams was a convicted felon.

Williams was charged with open container in a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, resisting an officer, felon in possession of a firearm and BREC park after dark violation.
