GONZALES - A judge sentenced a 38-year-old man from Gonzales to 42 years in prison for aggravated burglary of three homes.

Damon Delmore was found guilty of one count of aggravated burglary and two counts of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling on Nov. 10 of last year.

In May 2014, Delmore forced his way into three occupied Gonzales homes. In the first incident, a female was in the home and ran into a bedroom and locked the door once she saw Delmore. Delmore began screaming at her while banging on the door, however authorities said she could not understand English.

After breaking a window inside the home, Delmore fled. Delmore then entered a second home without permission and made contact with a juvenile who was asleep before he fled again.

Delmore then entered a third home occupied by an elderly couple. The elderly woman inside ran through the home to alert her husband. Delmore and the elderly man struggled while his wife attempted to escape.

The elderly woman was seen attempting to crawl through a bathroom window while screaming for help. The elderly man sustained contusions to his body from the struggle, and the elderly woman sustained a cut to her arm from the window.

The female victim from the first burglarized home contacted the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office who apprehended him while attempting to flee from the third home.

Judge Jason Verdigets ordered Delmore to be sentenced to 42 years on Monday to the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

On the charge of aggravated burglary he was sentenced to 30 years with credit for time served and on the charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling he was sentenced to six years with credit for time served on each count, totaling to 42 years.

The sentences are to run consecutive to one another.
