BATON ROUGE - Average retail gas prices in the Capital Area fell another 2.2 cents per gallon last week, bringing the average to $1.89 a gallon.

According to GasBuddy’s records, prices at the pump yesterday were 41.4 cents per gallon lower than the same time last year. Prices have dropped 13.7 cents just since the same day last month.

Currently, the lowest gas prices in the country are available in Jackson, Mississippi, were a gallon will only set you back $1.84 a gallon.

As of this writing, the Costco on Airline Hwy continues to lead the low prices with a gallon of their gas costing just $1.67. The Sam's Club near Cortana also lists the same price. It was just one cent more expensive at the Jones Creek Exxon.

Petroleum analysts expect the trend toward incremental price decline to continue after a brief pause this week, assuming there aren’t any additional refinery problems in the midwest or an Atlantic hurricane.
