BATON ROUGE - One lane of Scenic Highway remained closed Saturday morning after a gas/diesel leak Friday. Officials finally opened the road completely after 9 p.m. Saturday.

The leak was contained Friday afternoon after Hazmat crews responded to the leak near Scenic Highway and Blount Road.  Baton Rouge Firefighters were en route to the leak just before 11 a.m. Friday. The sheriff's office confirmed there was a pipeline link.

ExxonMobil Pipeline Company is conducting cleanup operations. According to officials, Exxon identified a leak during a routine inspection and the line was shut down.

Exxon also has industrial hygiene teams on the scene to conduct on-site air monitoring.

Scenic Highway was closed between Blount Road and Thomas Road with police detouring vehicles around the affected area.

As of Friday at 5:30 p.m. Friday, the left lane on Scenic Highway has opened after being closed and traffic is passing through.

No evacuations were needed.
