Firefighters responded to house fire near Sherwood Forest Blvd.

BATON ROUGE - Fire crews responded to a house fire Sunday afternoon.

Around 4:20 p.m. the Baton Rouge Fire Department arrived on scene to a house engulfed in flames in the 1600 block of Bellfort Drive near Sherwood Forest Blvd. 

According to BRFD, firefighters saw "extremely heavy" smoke coming from the back of the house. 

Investigators believe the blaze started in or around the attached "Mother-in-Law" suite and spread across the walk-way to the main home.

The suite is totally damaged and the main house received significant fir damage to the rear and smoke damage in the rest of the home.

The cause of the fire is unknown. 

No injures have been reported at this time.

Red Cross was at the scene.
