BATON ROUGE - A fight between inmates at the parish jail killed one man.

In new information released Thursday morning, deputies said Tyrin Colbert,17, was strangled by Kermitrius Thomas,17, Wednesday evening. Colbert was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine check and was taken to the hospital where he was on life support until Thursday. Colbert was found with a blanket wrapped around his neck, deputies said.

Investigators said other inmates reported Thomas pulled Colbert off the top bunk onto the floor where he strangled Colbert unconscious in a fight over the blanket used as the murder weapon.

Colbert had been in jail since November 2015 after being booked by Baton Rouge Police on sexual battery, indecent behavior with juveniles and simple battery charges. Thomas has been in jail since December 2015 on unauthorized entry and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile charges. He now faces second degree murder charges, the sheriff's office said.
