BATON ROUGE - Motorists are seeing heavy delays on I-10 and Essen Lane due to downed power lines following an earlier crash.

Traffic has backed up to the 10/12 split on I-10 as congestion results from motorists trying to exit I-10 at Essen. Essen Lane is backed up from Jefferson Highway to Perkins Road. BRPD said the lines near LSU's Burden Center were downed after a vehicle collided with a power pole at around 2 p.m.

The St. George Fire Department says the power lines have been cleared from the roadway, but heavy delays will follow as congestion clears. Entergy crews were on the scene as of 2:25 p.m.
