GONZALES – The Ascension Parish Public Works Department has a backlog of about 200 complaints about clogged drainage ditches.

Parish officials said they're trying to catch up but individuals can expect it to take several weeks before action is taken on a complaint.

Barbara Phillips in Dutchtown claims she complained about a clogged ditch behind her house for five weeks.

“My taxes pay for this,” exclaimed Phillips, “What's the deal?”

Phillips contacted News 2 this week. News 2 contacted Ascension Parish, and Phillips said work crews were at her place the next morning.

Parish officials said if water is backing up into a person’s yard then they’ll make that ditch a priority.

People with a clogged drainage ditch in their neighborhood can notify the public works department by using a mobile app.
