BATON ROUGE- Just a week after police called a fatal shooting that involved two LSU athletes, "self-defense" District Attorney Hillar Moore says based off of the evidence the shooting will likely be classified as a justifiable homicide.

"Based on what they have at this point they have concluded that this is justifiable homicide, a justifiable shooting, and I was there with them at the scene as well as my office and throughout the interviews and having seen the interviews myself. I think that their conclusion is sound. It’s the same conclusion that we have at this time," said Moore.

Now, this is not the final conclusion, there are still a few steps that need to be taken.

"It’s not a final decision, but it's one that seems to be consistent with all of the evidence and statements that we have seen," says Moore.

The shooting took place on December 22, 18-year-old Kobe Johnson was found dead at the scene. Authorities said LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was involved along with LSU linebacker Jared Small.

Police say the two LSU athletes were trying to sell an electronic device when Johnson attempted to rob them. On Wednesday, it was learned that Edwards-Helaire was the person who pulled the trigger on the alleged attacker.

One of the athletes pulled out a handgun and shot Johnson multiple times. The two athletes involved reported the shooting then waited at the scene for authorities to arrive.

"They stayed at the scene, they were cooperative with the police, and they were very polite. They were very articulate from the start," said Moore.

Just this week LSU head Ed Orgeron announced that both players will in fact play in the Fiesta Bowl.
