BATON ROUGE - A fundraiser is set for January to help pay some of Deputy Nick Tullier's medical bills.

Tullier, critically wounded in the July 2016 ambush that left three law enforcement officers dead, has been at a rehabilition hospital in Houston for the past year. His family and doctors say he is making remarkable progress.

Tullier was shot in the head and initially not expected to survive. In a video posted on Facebook Thursday, he is able to give a "thumbs-up" to the camera and previously posted videos show him speaking and maneuvering a power wheelchair.

The rehabilitation that his family calls a miracle comes at a high price.

To help with some of those expenses, country music stars and Louisiana law enforcement are holding a "Nashville To The Rescue for Nick Tullier" fundraiser Jan. 9 at the Baton Rouge Marriott. Local radio icon Scott Innes, who is also the voice for the Scooby Doo and Shaggy cartoon characters, organized the event.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres and West Baton Rouge Deputy Clifton Brown will perform, as will Billy Dean, Tanya Tucker, Andy Griggs, Collin Raye and Restless Hearts' Larry Stewart.

West Baton Rouge Sheriff Mike Cazes and his team will do the cooking.

Tickets go on sale Dec. 1.

Officials only have 40 tables, which is 400 tickets, for the event and they are expected to go fast. Tickets are $250 and includes dinner, drinks and a show. For an additional $100, people can get a professional picture taken with all of the stars.
