Buyouts available for some flooded homes in Livingston
LIVINGSTON - Livingston Parish has started taking applications from homeowners who flooded and want to be bought out.
The process is going to be lengthy, and homeowners will have to put up some of their own money, WBRZ learned Friday. Properties will have to be labeled a substantial loss to qualify.
Homeowners would need to put up 25% of the cost of the buyout, Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks said.
"A lot of people think they want to do some of this until they realize that there is a 25% match," he said.
The process will likely take two years or longer and will involve federal authorities.
Homeowners interested have until August 31st to apply. Applications are at the Livingston Parish Office of Homeland Security on Government Boulevard in Livingston.
