BATON ROUGE - Police report a woman was found shot to death inside of an abandoned residence on Pawtucket Street in Baton Rouge early Tuesday evening.

41-year-old Selena Hansel was located inside the house located at 4021 Pawtucket Street around 3:53 p.m., according to BRPD. Police said Hansel had a criminal history that included a pair of arrests for prostitution in 2012 and 2014 along with several other minor charges going back more than a decade. She did not have an address on file with police at the time of her death.

Police described the residence as a "squatter's type place," indicating that the abandoned property could frequently be used by transient individuals as a place to stay.

Police have yet to establish a motive in the shooting, but anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the BRPD Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869.

More details about the shooting are expected later today.
