HOUMA - A Deputy in Terrebonne Parish is being praised this weekend after he rescued a 4-month-old baby that was accidentally locked in a hot car Friday afternoon.

According to Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter, Lt. Douglas Chauvin Jr. responded to the Southland Mall Parking lot around 4 p.m. Friday. The mother told deputies that the child was locked in the car and had stopped crying.

At the scene, Lt. Chauvin assured the mom that the child would be rescued. He then used an unlocking device to open the door and reunite the child with her mother.

The baby was brought into the mall to get relief from the heat.
