IBERIA PARISH - Officials have identified body of a pilot whose helicopter crashed in the Atchafalaya Basin, according to a KATC Report.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal identified the pilot as 29-year-old Casey Clark of Great Falls, Montana. He says Clark was a pilot working for Gulf Coast Helicopters. He was living in Pearland, Texas.

Ackal said the pilot was the only person on board at the time of the crash.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened in the Atchafalaya Basin in the parish panhandle. Sheriff’s deputies, Wildlife and Fishieries agents and the Coast Guard searched the scene for wreckage pilot Thursday morning. State Police have also joined the search, and it was one of their helicopters that was used overnight to search for heat signatures in the water.

The three-seat helicopter was last known to have left Gonzales around 4 p.m. Wednesday.  Someone concerned with the status of the flight reported it missing and a search ensued.  An extensive search began late Wednesday evening and continued into Thursday.

The 2005-model helicopter is owned by Texas-based Gulf Coast Helicopters, Inc.  It's last airworthiness check was December 2011. Initial reports said it was an Air Force helicopter.

Updates are expected as rescue efforts continue.
