BATON ROUGE - An 18-wheeler is to blame for the power outage in part of a Broadmoor community. The big rig snagged power lines while driving through the residential area, cutting off electricity to some homes.

Several residents on Kenlee Street say they were awakened by the loud noises they heard around four o'clock this morning.

The power lines on the poles fell onto Thurman Varnado's shed. He says that will cost him thousands.

"Evidently he did not feel it, cause he broke two poles and the back pole fell across my shed and cut it about half in two," Varnado said.

Jennifer Berthalot heard the loud sounds this morning and says the lines from her house ripped the back of the frame of her house.

"A couple of the wires that came down pulled down a piece or two of the siding off of the house," Berthalot said. "You can actually tell where at least one of the cables was connected it actually pulled the siding away from the framework."

Kathy, lives on the same street and says she's thankful her neighbor warned her of the down wires on her lawn.

"It was kinda scary looking out that I have wires hanging over my house on my house in two different spots," she said.

Police have not determined if the driver will be cited for the damages.
