BATON ROUGE- The mother of six children who went viral last week after she was arrested for disciplining her kids tells WBRZ she lost her job over her arrest.

"It's been my only income right now," Schaquana Spears said.

Spears admitted to whipping her children after they got caught breaking into a neighbor's house. Her three oldest kids were taken away. She is forbidden from discussing that situation. As she fights the cruelty charges she now faces, losing her job is another challenge.

Spears read the message she received from her boss.

"Home office is sending you a letter," Spears said. "Basically this has to be resolved in your favor, charges dropped or not guilty verdict for you to return."

Spears is a chef but didn't want to identify her place of work just yet. Tonight, she plans on testing her culinary talents.

"I've been getting a lot more calls with my catering," Spears said. "God has a mysterious way of working. Maybe this is for me to focus on my business and get it off the ground."

Her fight is far from over, as she faces criminal charges. However, she's grateful for all the kind WBRZ viewers who have already offered up kind words and assistance to help her get through the most trying time of her life.

"It's tough, but everyday I find myself getting a little more stronger," Spears said. "I'm stepping out on faith, and I know it's all in God's hands. He knows my heart and my intentions and it's all going to work out."
