BATON ROUGE - A man with only one arm and no legs escaped a burning vehicle in a parking lot Tuesday.

A pickup truck ignited into a large fire outside of a shopping center near the corner of Bluebonnet and Perkins around 2 p.m. Video of the fire recorded by a passerby on the street showed the cab of the truck engulfed in flames. At times, flames and thick smoke rose above the roof of nearby businesses.

A hoist was seen in the bed of the truck, similar to equipment used by people to load and unload wheelchairs into vehicles.

A man waiting for a bus noticed someone in the vehicle and rushed to pull them out.  The man inside the truck said his wife was inside a store when the pickup caught on fire.

Firefighters put the fire out.  A second vehicle was damaged during the blaze.

Specific information about the cause and any reports of injuries have not been released.
