BATON ROUGE – Southern University released more information about its handling of a sex tape purported to involve a high-ranking school administrator and an underling.

WBRZ.com first reported details of the video Tuesday. Then, Southern stopped short of confirming an investigation into the video but by Wednesday insinuated there may be an investigation and if employees are involved, action may be taken.

The video was posted on a pornographic website but has since been removed. The video shows a woman and a man having sex with each other.

In its original statement on the matter Tuesday, Southern called the video a “private” one that ended up being posted on the internet and questioned whether the video being posted was done in malice and suggested a crime may have occurred with its posting.

“Because of implications that a cyber crime may have occurred, we take matters like this very seriously,” the university wrote in a statement. In the first statement, Southern University cautioned its students about the importance of maintaining a positive image on social media.

“... we advise and caution our students and employees on the importance of data security as well as the ramifications of their conduct on social media. We will continue to take every measure to ensure that our students and staff understand that we want to ensure their safety and well being both on campus and online.”

Wednesday, the campus expanded its position on the situation and said the video was likely posted without the consent of the owner and  “should the University determine this matter involves employees and/or students, we will evaluate whether any policies have been violated, and take appropriate action.”

As of this post, the university said no one involved in the video has been reprimanded.  WBRZ has made an editorial decision not to release the names of those involved.
