Towboat captain found dead in boat on Mississippi River
NATCHEZ- According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a towboat captain was found dead by crewmembers Sunday on the Mississippi River.
The Natchez Democrat says the initial report of a fatality on the vessel was reported at 5:15 p.m. near the Fort Adams community in Wilkinson County.
The Wilkinson County Coroner was en route to the scene by 8:30 p.m.
A representative said the boat was an uninspected towing vessel and is normally operated by 15 to 18 crewmembers. The U.S. Coast Guard representative said further details were unavailable because the death is still under investigation.
