State Police release timeline of events during Hammond Aire shooting

BATON ROUGE - Three officers were killed and three others injured when a Missouri man opened fire during an attack that has been called an ambush on Sunday morning.

The events unfolded between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. The shooter, Gavin Long, was killed at the scene.

8:40 a.m.

Baton Rouge Police Department officers at a convenience store located on Airline Highway near its intersection with Old Hammond Hwy observe an indiviudal wearing all black, standing behind a beauty supply store holding a rifle.

8:42 a.m.

First reports to dispatcher that shot have been fired.

8:44 a.m.

Two minutes after shots were reported, calls of officer down are transmitted.

8:45 a.m.

More shots are fired.

8:46 a.m.

Dispatchers receive reports that a suspect wearing all black is standing near a car wash, later identified as the Benny's Car Wash on Airline Highway, next to the B-Quik convenience store

8:48 a.m.

EMS begins staging at the scene to render aid.

Louisiana State Police said officers then engaged the subject, ultimately killing him at the scene. State Police and multiple agencies responded to the scene in an attempt to secure the area and identify possible potential suspects and further threats. A robot was used to check the area near the scene for explosives.

Two BRPD officers and one EBRSO deputy were killed during the gunfight. 3 others were injured. One remains in critical condition at an area hospital.
