CENTRAL – Help was on the way for an elderly Central woman who needed help to remove piles of junk off her property.

The city of Central demanded that she clean it up, and Saturday a group of volunteers took the matter into their own hands.

“It’s wonderful. It’s a blessing. The good lord sent me a blessing,” the 78-year-old woman said. She did not want to release her name.

The woman said she felt hopeless for years after the city pressured her to do something about the junk along her property.  The items were left by her late husband. The long- time resident told News 2 she has only a few family members left and most of them live up north.

Residents like Dave Freneaux heard about the situation and posted it to Facebook. Saturday more than a dozen volunteers rolled up their sleeves to lend a helping hand.

“We’ve cut up trees. We’ve hauled metal and rabbit cages,” Freneaux said. “There were also four abandoned vehicles here that we also towed off yesterday.”

Douglas Reed and James Hammond, both from Baker, saw the post on Facebook as well and decided to come out and help.

Freneaux said that it’s common for elderly people in Central to go through this kind of problem. Abiding by the city code is not always easy.

“You have people that’s been having this type of rural unregulated living for a long time,” Freneaux said. “There’s a transition into becoming a city and there’s a compassionate way of doing it. We felt like this is it.”

The city of Central said they'd been receiving complaints about her property for years and are working with the property owner to get the matter resolved.
