It's the last day of summer for some kids; School starts this week

BATON ROUGE - Some students in the Baton Rouge area will return to class this week.

Although classes in most parishes will resume next week, students and Livingston Parish will be the first to hit the books, starting Thursday August 4.

Below is a list of area parishes and their school start dates. Click the name of the parish to view the schools' 2016-2017 academic calendars.

Students in Baker in need of school supplies will have a chance to win free supplies for the next year. The giveaway will take place at the Baker School System office Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon.

WBRZ Channel 2 raised more than $40,000 worth of school supplies and stuffed a total of four buses during the 9th annual Stuff the Bus campaign. The supplies were distributed to East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes on July 13. East Baton Rouge Parish distributed their collected supplies Saturday.
