BATON ROUGE - Authorities have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month.

The shooting was first reported on June 7 just after 8 p.m. in the 5000 block of Winbourne Avenue. At the scene, police found the victim dead next to the roadway. According to the arrest report he died from apparent gunshot injuries. The man was identified as 32-year-old Kelvin Brown Jr.

Brown was sitting in his vehicle when another vehicle pulled up. Inside was 19-year-old Tykelian Lafleur.

From surveillance video taken from a local business, police could see Lafleur get out of the passenger side of the second vehicle and get into Brown's vehicle. A short time later gunfire was exchanged. Brown got out of the vehicle, but fell on the street and died.

Lafleur left the scene and arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle. While speaking with authorities, Lafleur said he was shot on Winebourne Avenue. He admitted that he met with Brown for a drug deal but said neither one of them had guns.

At the scene police found two guns, blood, cash, and multiple baggies of suspect marijuana. Through evidence that was collected, police discovered that Lafleur was not telling the truth.

Lafleur was charged with first-degree murder.
