BATON ROUGE - An environmental engineering senior from LSU was the first LSU student to be invited to the Jeopardy! College Championship Tournament.

Kevin Brown placed third in the February 2 edition of the popular show, seen locally on WBRZ Channel 2.  He competed with 14 other students from schools across the country for a shot at the $100,000 grand prize in a tournament from Feb. 1 to Feb. 12.  Brown appeared in the quarterfinals broadcast on Tuesday.

Brown is a Boise, Idaho, native with academic accolades already attached to his name as he collected the Flagship Scholar honor back in 2012.

“Being on ‘Jeopardy!’ was a much more intense and significant experience than I expected,” said Brown. “Over the course of two days, I got a behind-the-scenes look at a nationally-beloved TV show, met 14 amazing students from around the country and, most importantly, had the opportunity to represent LSU on the national stage. I was the first LSU student to be invited to the College Championship, and I hope that my appearance will inspire more students to go for it.”

Other schools represented in the national tournament include Augustana University, Brown, Columbia, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Northeastern, Northwestern, Stanford, West Point, Berkeley, University of Pittsburgh, USC, University of Virginia and Wright State.

Brown will discuss being on the show in a live interview on WBRZ News 2 at 4 Wednesday.
