GROSSE TETE - Authorities are investigating a report of a discovery of human remains in Iberville Parish.

Remains were found on Highway 77 between Grosse Tete and Rosedale.  The sheriff's office said someone picking up pecans on the side of the highway saw scattered skeletal remains in the area.

The LSU F.A.C.E.S. Lab will retrieve the bones and attempt to find an identity.

Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi confirmed that the bones are the remains of a man aged 35-55 years old. Stassi said the investigation will likely take some time.

"You can only imagine the amount of evidence that is lost when these remains are located by scavenging animals," Sheriff Brett Stassi said Monday evening.  "It's going to take us a while to try and search the area."
