BATON ROUGE - Two people were transported to the hospital Monday night in Baton Rouge following an unusual series of events.

According to BRPD, a man stopped to let a passenger out of his car when the passenger shot him in the shoulder blade-area of his back. The driver quickly sped off and crashed into a ditch as he was trying to getaway.

While backing out of the ditch, police say he accidentally hit a woman who was walking on the side of the road.

This happened on Dayton Street just off Plank Road. The pedestrian's injuries were described as minor, while the gunshot victim's were "moderate".

Neither patient has been identified, and police say they don't have any suspects at the time of this post. According to investigators, the gunshot victim told them he didn't know the gunmen.
