BATON ROUGE - WBRZ has confirmed that a key member of John Bel Edwards' staff has resigned amid an investigation into alleged sexual harassment within the governor's office.

The resignation was first reported in a story by LaPolitics.com. The report says that a number of sexual harassment allegations were being leveled at Deputy Chief of Staff of Programs and Planning Johnny Anderson before his sudden departure Wednesday.

Deputy Chief of Staff of Communications Richard Carbo released the following statement to WBRZ Wednesday night, noting that the governor's office had only just been made aware of the allegations Tuesday.

“We take these allegations very seriously. Upon commencement of the investigative process, Johnny Anderson resigned from the Governor’s Office. The investigation will continue, and we are unable to comment any further," the statement read. "Gov. Edwards has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and it will not be tolerated in this administration.”

We caught up with Anderson on Thanksgiving Day at his home in Baton Rouge. He claims that any allegations are false and that he stepped down from his position in the governor's administration so that he wouldn't serve as a distraction.

"I think is just appropriate until for me to clear my own name, and it's just fair for the governor to not be clearing my name on his staff. That needs to be done outside of his staff," Anderson said Thursday.
