BATON ROUGE - Police have confirmed that former New Orleans Saints defensive back Tracy Porter was arrested in Baton Rouge Tuesday night on drug and battery charges.

Police say Porter was arrested after a physical altercation with his girlfriend of two years on Oct. 5. According to Baton Rouge Police, the victim met with Porter at the Coastal Truck Driving School on Flannery Road in order to take back keys to her home. She said Porter then became angry and grabbed her arm and throat, forcing her up against his vehicle.

When officers spoke to Porter about the incident Tuesday night, he said he had only grabbed the victim in self defense. Porter then allowed police to search his vehicle and person.

Police found a number of prescription strength painkillers, a firearm and one ounce of marijuana in his vehicle. Porter said the pills belonged to him, however he had no prescription for the medication.

Porter was arrested on charges of battery of a dating partner, as well as drug charges. He was later released after paying the $3,000 bond.

Porter is most famous for making the game-sealing interception in the Saints' Super Bowl 44 match-up vs the Indianapolis Colts in 2010.

Porter is currently a free agent in the NFL.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
