BATON ROUGE - Former Metro Councilman Byron Sharper has made his candidacy for Mayor-President of Baton Rouge official as of Tuesday.

Sharper says he's going to focus on reinforcing communication between education, businesses and traffic leaders as he tries to push city-parish leaders toward alleviating the main problems that plague the Capital City.

"We look into our commiunities and out on Plank and Scenic road where you have potholes everywhere," said Sharper. "On Gus Young, Acadian Thruway and and over towards Southern University. We put all the resources on the south part of the parish on Coursey and Bluebonnet. I don't have a problem with that. I think we need to bring that balance to our city and the parish in order for Baton Rouge to be a sharper city."

Sharper joins two other candidates who have already announced for the race: Councilman John Delgado and former State Senator Sharon Weston Broome.

Others considering entering the race include Rep. Denise Marcelle, Sen. Bodi White, former Councilman Smoke Bourgeois and former Attorney General candidate Marty Maley.
