GONZALES - A multi-agency operation led by federal authorities raided massage parlors across the region Wednesday.

WBRZ learned agents had stormed a business in a strip mall on S. Ruby Avenue just east of I-10 off La. 30. Witnesses said there were a handful of marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles in the parking lot and agents were focused on the massage parlor there.

An FBI spokesperson told WBRZ the agency was leading the raid, and it involved numerous state agencies, including the La. State Fire Marshal's Office.

"We are participating in a multi-agency operation, but that is all I can say at the moment," Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue said in a message to WBRZ.

Eyewitnesses told WBRZ, most agents dispersed around lunch but a few remained going in and out of the business.

Simultaneously, the Yu Garden Spa on S. Harrell's Ferry was also raided by agents.  Eyewitness near the business at the corner of Millerville described a similar scene as the one in Ascension Parish.  At Yu Garden Spa, agents were gone by lunch, witnesses told WBRZ.

Other stores were reportedly raided in an effort spearheaded by federal authorities.
