Evacuation orders issued for multiple parishes ahead of Tropical Storm Barry

Officials are advising residents in certain areas to evacuate as heavy rain moves in.

A mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for Grand Isle, Jefferson Parish, parts of Plaquemines Parish, and all areas south of the Leon Theriot Locks in Golden Meadow and Port Fourchon in Lafourche Parish. 

Voluntary evacuations have been issued for East Feliciana Parish along the Amite River and Ponchatoula below Hwy 22, all of Assumption Parish, and for low-lying areas in St. Charles Parish.

Officials in St. Martin Parish have announced a curfew from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. The curfew will also run from dusk Saturday night to dawn Sunday morning. 

St. Helena Parish has opened a shelter for residents. The shelter is located at the St. Helena College and Career Academy Gymnasium located at 14340 Hwy 37. Residents should bring their own pillows and blankets, and medications should place placed in plastic bags with people's names on them.
