BATON ROUGE - Danny Etling says it was a struggle to watch LSU in the Texas Bowl at the end of last season from his house.

"It wasn't fun not being able to be there and help out my teammates on the field last year," said the Tigers backup quarterback.

Etling took a redshirt last season as he transferred from Purdue to Baton Rouge, but now that Anthony Jennings has announced his own transfer, Etling is the clear cut 2nd string quarterback behind Brandon Harris.

"I feel like every play is audition," said Etling, who threw 16 touchdown passes for the Boilermakers in 2 seasons.

Midway through his sophomore campaign, Etling suffered an injury that kept him out one game: the Purdue coaching staff decided to make the temporary change of starting quarterback a permanent one, and Etling began searching for a new home.

He found a familiar face in Tigers' offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who grew up in the same town as Etling (Terre Houte, IN) and even attended the same high school.

Etling has a comfortable relationship with Cameron and has been excited about the positive feedback from the LSU coaching staff this spring.

"It just makes me want to work that much harder."
