NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a report of an officer firing at a vehicle following a fight on Dillard University's campus.

The incident happened on Thursday around 11 a.m. on Dillard's campus where a campus officer responded to an alleged fight. The officer saw a vehicle, described as a White Lexus with tinted windows, attempting to leave campus.

The officer believed the occupants of the vehicle may have been involved in the fight. The campus officer told NOPD that he attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and drove toward the direction of the officer.

The officer said that he then got out of the way of the vehicle and pulled out his gun. The officer fired one shot, however it did not hit anyone and no injuries have been reported.

The Public Integrity Bureau Force Investigation Team is handling the criminal investigation into the use of force and the Dillard Police Department is handling the administrative investigation.
