GONZALES – Police are investigating after city employees found Jambalaya Park in Gonzales vandalized Monday morning.

On Monday, Gonzales City Hall employees found ornaments were taken from the city's tree and smashed on the ground, lights in Jambalaya Park were ripped from the fences and shattered and toilet paper on the stalls and floor in the park's bathroom.

"This is incredibly upsetting," said City of Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux. "Why anyone would intentionally set out to demolish a display that brings much joy to many people is beyond comprehension."

A Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was planned for Tuesday, Dec. 6. According to Arceneaux the event will still take place.

"We still plan to roll ahead with our event. It's difficult to feel like celebrating when something like this happens, but we hope the community still feesl like coming out and being festive with all of us.," Arceneaux said.

City of Gonzales Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with any information about the incident is encouraged to call the City of Gonzales Police Department at 225-647-7511.
